Sélestat Alsace handball is a French handball club from Sélestat .

history

The club was founded in 1967 as SC Sélestat Handball. After a few years in the lower leagues, the club became champions of the third division in the 1978/79 season and then rose to the second division and thus to the professional sector. In the 1989/90 season the club rose to the first division, the "Ligue 1", in which - with the interruptions in 1992/93 and 1996/97 - played up to and including the 2014/15 season. After the club took up division 2 in the 2015/16 season, Sélestat managed to return to the top French division.

The best placement the club ever achieved was fifth in the 1999/2000 season, with only two points missing from a European Cup place.

Due to its relatively small budget for "Ligue 1", the club began to focus on youth work early on. The best-known graduate of the Sélestat management team is the French national goalkeeper Thierry Omeyer (now Paris St. Germain, now THW Kiel , among others ). In most cases, the club had to give up its youth players early.

successes

In 1995 the team reached the final of the French Cup.
