Volker Michel (born May 5, 1973 in Dornholzhausen ) is a former German handball player .

Career

The 1.97 m tall right back player with the shirt number 19 last played for HSG Wetzlar in the Bundesliga . The 2005/06 season was at its best. In the Bundesliga he scored 210 goals and was seventh on the list of goalscorers, and he also reached the final of the 2005/06 EHF Cup with Frisch Auf Göppingen . He was nominated for the HBL All-Star Game in 2007 and 2008 due to his good performance . In 2009 he ended his career. The left-hander scored 971 goals in 283 Bundesliga games.

He was used 19 times for the German national team. In 2006 he took part in the European Championships in Switzerland, although shortly before he had broken his nose several times in a game. He was in the provisional squad for the 2007 World Cup in Germany, but was not called into the final squad.

Private

Michel is a high school teacher at the Goetheschule Wetzlar in the subjects of sport and mathematics . He is also a co-founder of GOAL, the joint organization of all licensed handball players in Germany.

In his free time he devotes himself to writing. His first work "Sommersemester" (2005) describes a week in the life of a Giessen student flat share. Since Volker Michel himself studied in Giessen in the 1990s, this book has a strongly autobiographical character.
