Igor Wladimirowitsch Tschumak ( Russian Игорь Владимирович Чумак , born April 1, 1964 in Vladivostok ) is a former Russian handball player . He is also a French citizen .

Career

society

The 1.95 m tall and 102 kg heavy handball goalkeeper began his career in 1979 with Sarja Astrachan . After just one season he was signed by SKIF Krasnodar , where he finished third in the Soviet league in 1988 and 1989. In May 1990 he moved to Dinamo Astrachan , with whom he was Soviet champion in 1990, runner-up in 1991 and third in 1992. In the EHF Cup 1990/91 he reached the semi-finals. In 1992 he signed with the French club Montpellier HB . In 1995 he won the Ligue Nationale de Handball for the first time in the club history of the current record champions . In 1996 he joined ES Besançon , who had to make the way to the second division. In 1999 he returned to the LNH and stood in the gate of Girondins de Bordeaux HBC . In the 2000/01 season he played for the German Bundesliga club Eintracht Hildesheim . He then returned to France to the Sélestat AHB . After two years he went to the third French division for Perpignan Handball . In 2005/06 he let his career end with TV Willstätt .

When Ivan Zoubkoff , a former teammate in Bordeaux, injured himself in the spring of 2007 , Tschumak helped out with the southern second division club Bergischer HC after his call .

In October 2009 and for the first half of 2010/11 he was reactivated by TV Willstätt, but already moved to the second half of the season in the South Baden league for TuS Helmlingen.

National team

Igor Tschumak became world champion with the Soviet junior selection at the Junior World Championships in 1983 and 1985. With the Soviet men's national handball team , he won the gold medal at the 1988 Olympic Games and the silver medal at the 1990 World Cup . With the United Team of the Commonwealth of Independent States , he was again Olympic champion in 1992 in Barcelona .

For the Olympic victory in 1988 he received the award of Honored Master of Sports of the USSR (Заслуженный мастер спорта СССР).

Private

Igor Tschumak is married and has two daughters.
