The 12th men's handball world championship was held from February 28 to March 10, 1990 in Czechoslovakia . A total of 16 teams competed in the tournament. Sweden became the world champion, defeating the USSR in the final 27:23. The GDR team took eighth place, the Federal Republic of Germany could not qualify for the tournament.
