Pierre Roger Valdemar Thorsson (born June 21, 1966 in Linköping , Sweden ) is a Swedish handball coach who played for the Swedish national team during his playing days .
Career
Thorsson initially played in his home country for IFK Karlskrona and IF Saab-HF Linköpings Lejon. In 1996 the left-hander moved to the then German second division VfL Bad Schwartau , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1998 and won the DHB Cup in 2001. From 2001 he played for the Italian club Papillon Coversano , with whom he won the championship twice.
In 2003 Thorsson returned to the Bundesliga, where he played for SG Flensburg-Handewitt . After a season in which Thorsson won the German championship, he moved to the Swedish club Hästö IF, where he initially worked as a player and assistant coach. Thorsson later took over the coaching position, which he held until 2008. From summer 2009 he worked as a youth coach at Hästö. In August 2012 Thorsson took over the coaching of the women's team at Flottans IF. After Thorsson left his job at Flottans, he took over the position of assistant coach for the first division club HIF Karlskrona in 2017.
Thorsson completed 237 caps for the Swedish selection, in which he threw 558 goals. With the national team he won the world championship in 1990 and 1999 , and was European champion in 1994 and 2000 . In addition, Thorsson took part in the Olympic Games in 1992 , 1996 and 2000 , where he won the silver medal.
