Mats Olsson (born January 12, 1960 in Malmö ) is a former Swedish handball player and today's handball coach.

Olsson began his career at the Malmö club Dalhems IF . In 1980 he moved to the top Swedish club LUGI HF from Lund, which had just won the national championship for the first time. As a result, the club started in the European Cup , where the semi-finals could surprisingly be reached. There they were eliminated with two defeats against the eventual title winner SC Magdeburg . Without a title win, Olsson left his Swedish homeland in 1988 to move to the emerging top club CB Cantabria Santander . With Santander he won the Spanish championship twice and the Champions League in 1994 . After his time in Spain, Olsson moved back to Sweden - to Ystads IF - but made a short comeback for Santander afterwards.

For the national team Olsson completed a total of 292 internationals from 1979 to 1997. He took part in a total of six world championships , one of which he won with his team ( 1990 ). In four Olympic participations, he achieved two silver medals. He was also part of the winning team at the first handball European championship in 1994.

After his active career, Olsson took over as coach of the Portuguese national team .
