The 13th  men's handball world championship  was held from March 10th to 20th, 1993 in Sweden  . A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament. World champion was Russia  , which was able to prevail in the final with 28:19 against France  . Third place went to Sweden  , who beat Switzerland  26:19. The German team came  in sixth, Austria  in 14th place. The first nine teams qualified directly for the following World Cup in 1995  in Iceland  .
