Vasily Alexandrowitsch Kudinow ( Russian Василий Александрович Кудинов ; born February 17, 1969 in Ilyinka , Soviet Union ; † February 11, 2017 in Astrakhan , Russia ) was a Russian handball player . He was twice Olympic champion, once with the Russian national team and once with the United Team . Kudinow died six days before his 48th birthday.

The 1.95 m tall and 100 kg heavy half-left backcourt player began playing handball in his home near Dinamo Astrakhan , where he became the Soviet champion in 1990. In 1992 he moved to France to US Ivry HB , with whom he became French cup winner in 1996 and champion in 1997. In 1997 the right-hander went to the German handball league for VfL Hameln . In 2000 he signed with SC Magdeburg , with which he became German champion. After only one season he moved to the Japanese club Honda Suzuka before he went back to Astrakhan in 2004, where he once again reached the semifinals of the EHF Cup at the end of his career .
National team
Kudinow won the U-21 World Cup in 1989 with the Soviet junior selection . In 1990 he made his debut for the Soviet national team . With the United Team of the successor states of the Soviet Union, he won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. With the Russian national team he was world champion in 1993 and 1997 and vice world champion in 1999 , European champion in 1996, European vice champion in 1994 and third in 2000 . At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he won his second gold medal, and in 2004 in Athens again bronze. In 1996 in Atlanta, he was only fifth.
He was the top scorer of the European Championship in 1994 and was there in the All-Star Team and at the World Championships in 1997 and 1999.
His son Sergei is also a Russian national handball player.
