Marc Baumgartner (born March 4, 1971 in Bern ) is a former Swiss handball player . He played on the left back during his playing days .
Baumgartner made his debut in the National League A at BSV Bern Muri at the age of 16 . Here he developed into one of the most dangerous players in the Swiss league. He was the top scorer in the National League A in 1992 and 1994.
In 1994 he was signed by the German Bundesliga club TBV Lemgo , for whom he played successfully for many years - with a brief interruption. After a total of 270 Bundesliga games (1,261 goals) for the TBV, he moved back to BSV Bern Muri in 2005, where he also managed the office. After a year "Boumi" ended his sporting career and only took care of the office. In the National League A he had completed 248 games in which he scored 1,563 goals.
He ended his position as branch manager in September 2006 when he was offered the post of assistant coach in the Swiss national team. After only one year as an assistant coach, Baumgartner was no longer employed for financial reasons.
He made his international debut for the Swiss national team on October 25, 1990 against Hungary , where he scored twelve goals. In total, he played 169 games in his international career, in which he threw 1093 goals, making him the record scorer in his country. At the 1993 World Cup , where the Swiss team took 4th place, he was the top scorer of the World Cup with 47 goals. At the 1996 Olympic Games , he finished eighth.
