Manuel Liniger (born September 10, 1981 in Winterthur ) is a former Swiss national handball player .

Career

The 1.81 meter tall and 76 kilogram left winger began his professional career in 1999 at Pfadi Winterthur . With Pfadi he was three times Swiss champion as well as one cup winner and one super cup winner. In the EHF Challenge Cup 2000/01 he reached the final. In 2005 he moved to the German handball Bundesliga for the Wilhelmshavener HV . After two seasons he returned to the National League A back to Kadetten Schaffhausen . With this club he advanced to the semifinals of the EHF European Cup Winners' Cup 2007/08 and 2008/09 and the final of the EHF Cup 2009/10 . In 2008/09 he was the competition's top scorer with 83 goals. After becoming Swiss champion again in 2010, he joined the EHF Cup winner TBV Lemgo, with whom he reached the semi-finals again in 2010/11 . From the 2012/13 season, the winger played at HBW Balingen-Weilstetten , with whom he was relegated to the 2nd handball Bundesliga in 2014 . He then left the HBW and returned to the Kadetten Schaffhausen, with whom he signed a four-year contract. He ended his career after the 2017/18 season.

Manuel Liniger took part in the 2004 European Championship with the Swiss national team and came in twelfth place. He played 214 international matches in which he scored 902 goals. This makes him the second best Swiss goalscorer behind Marc Baumgartner (1093).
