The 1.92 m tall and 92 kg heavy right-handed person can be used flexibly in the back . Lukas von Deschwanden started playing handball in Altdorf. He later played for HC Kriens-Luzern . From 2009 he played for Wacker Thun in the Swiss NLA , where he won the championship in 2013 and 2018 as well as the trophy in 2012, 2013 and 2017. In the 2012/13 and 2014/15 season he was the top scorer in the NLA with 199 goals and 175 goals respectively. He was also voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the year in the 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2017/18 seasons. Internationally, he reached the final in the EHF Challenge Cup 2011/12, the group phase in the EHF Champions League 2013/14 and the group phase in the EHF Cup 2017/18 with Thun . In summer 2018 he moved to the German association TVB 1898 Stuttgart . Von Deschwanden made his first appearance in the Bundesliga on August 23, 2018 in the away game at SC DHfK Leipzig Handball . For the 2019/20 season he moved to the French first division club Chambéry Savoie HB . He will return to Wacker Thun in summer 2020.

In the Swiss national team , von Deschwanden made his debut on October 1, 2013 against Qatar and has so far played 57 international matches in which he scored 179 goals. (As of January 5, 2020)
