The club Pfadi Winterthur , founded in 1938, was the strongest team in the Swiss league in handball during the 1990s . She was Swiss champion a total of 9 times .

Club history

Pfadi Winterthur was founded in 1938 on the occasion of the Boy Scout National Camp in Zurich. In 1947, the still young club can move up to the top division for the first time . Pfadi and the football club Winterthur , which has been relegated to the first division, decide to play double games (field handball and football). This idea is impressively rewarded. Up to 4,000 spectators make a pilgrimage to the games on the Schützenwiese .

In 1950, on the occasion of the general assembly , a non-scout was included in the team for the first time.

Pfadi played for the first time in 1983 in the newly built Eulachhalle , previously the large indoor riding arena ( Teuchelweiher multipurpose facility ) was the venue for the club's home games. With the engagement of Erik Veje Rasmussen , Roman Brunner and Stefan Schärer , Pfadi landed a hussar blow on the transfer market in 1990 and heralded the successful 1990s. In the 1991/92 season, Pfadi won his first championship title and the first title in a team sport for the city of Winterthur in 75 years.

1993 Robert Meyer becomes the new president of Pfadi. The bank director heralds a new era together with the former scout player Ernst Liniger as manager and the advertising specialist Walter Baer. This constellation will last into the new millennium.

In the 1997/98 season, Pfadi made it to the quarter-finals as group winners in the EHF Champions League via Ademar León , Belgrade and Drammen HK . Opponent there is the finalist from 1997, Badel Zagreb . After the first leg in Croatia was narrowly lost with 24:27, the return leg of the home-strong scouts in Winterthur caused a scandal. The two Russian referees Danelia and Kisseljow whistle the game in such a way and obviously one-sided that it comes to extraordinary tumult in the end and the accusation of bribery is loud. The referees had to be brought out of the hall under police protection. Some local celebrities from politics and business took part in the tumult, which was prepared with relish by local newspapers and caused excited letters to the editor. Pfadi finally lodged a protest with the EHF , which - combined with the announcement of improvements and selective measures - was rejected in the second instance due to a lack of evidence.

For the 2007/08 season, the club signed the German national player Markus Baur as a player- coach . On October 30, 2007, Pfadi announced that Baur will leave the club at the end of the year despite the current contract and take over the coaching position at TBV Lemgo . At the same time, Pfadi agreed a partnership with the TBV.

offspring

In 2019, 150 boys aged U9 (under 9 years old) to U19 (under 19 years old) will be trained at Pfadi Winterthur. Since the 2010/2011 season, girls from the age group U15 (under 15 years old) have been trained exclusively at Yellow Winterthur, as Yellow Winterthur is particularly committed to women's sports.

The boys have the following age groups and skill levels:

  • U9-U11 Challangers
  • U13 Promotion S2
  • U13 Inter (Espoirs)
  • U15 Promotion S2
  • U15 Promotion S1
  • U15 Inter
  • U15 elite
  • U17 Promotion S1
  • U17 Inter
  • U17 elite
  • U19 doctorate

The teams play in different leagues depending on their ability and age. Basically, inter-teams play in a higher league than promotion teams and elite teams play in a higher league than inter-teams. But it can also be that several teams have qualified for the same league.

In short: Promotion <Inter <Elite
