Men's Department (DHK)

history

The club was founded on March 3, 1992 at the general assembly of the two associations Reistad IL from Lier and Sturla IF from Drammen. The two teams planned to create a team suitable for the first division in their region and therefore transferred the players from their first teams to the newly founded Drammen HK. Reistad and Sturla did not break up completely, but now concentrated mainly on youth work.

Drammen HK received for the 1992/93 season the starting place of the previous team from Reistad IL, which had won the 1st division and was promoted to the elite series . The newly formed team was immediately relegated in 1993.

Then the Swede Kent-Harry Andersson took over the coaching office; his team - to which the later national players Frode Hagen and Glenn Solberg belonged - rose again in 1994 immediately. From then on, Drammen developed into the top team in the Eliteserien: in 1995 - as a promoted team - they immediately became second in the league, in 1996 third and as the first Norwegian club ever to win European Cup ( City Cup ) and in 1997 for the first time champions. However, the club was unable to keep its top performers: In the summer of 1997, Frode Hagen went to SG Flensburg-Handewitt , Glenn Solberg and coach Kent-Harry Andersson to HSG Nordhorn . In the next few years, Drammen continued to be among the top tier of the elite series, but did not win another title.

In 2006 Drammen brought his former stars Glenn Solberg and Frode Hagen back to Norway. The team promptly won the Norwegian championship and made it to the final of the EHF Challenge Cup , where it failed at the Romanian club UCM Resita. In the 2007/08 season, Drammen HK played in the EHF Champions League .

history

The women's department was only created in 1999 when the two women's teams from Åssiden and Sturla were merged into the larger Drammen HK. The team took over for the 1999/2000 season from Åssiden, which was relegated to the 2nd division. In 2001 the team rose again to the 1st division. Since then, DKH has always belonged to the top group of the 1st division; In 2003, the team just missed promotion to the elite series. In 2005, Vigdis Holmeset, a first division experienced coach, took over the team.
