Matías Carlos Schulz (born February 12, 1982 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine handball player .
Life
Matías Schulz's great-grandfather Karl from Hanover emigrated with his wife from the German Empire to Argentina in the capital Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century . Schulz himself speaks perfect German. In Buenos Aires he attended the Goethe School.
He and his wife have two sons (2012, 2015).
Career
In July 2006, the handball goalkeeper from Buenos Aires moved to the German second division team Dessau-Roßlauer HV . In summer 2008 he joined the Spanish club Helvetia Anaitasuna, which played in the División de Honor B. Just one season later, he moved to in the League ASOBAL playing BM Antequera . In summer 2010 Schulz signed a contract with Pines BM Badajoz. From 2011 to 2013 he played again for Anaitasuna. In the 2013/14 season he played for BM Granollers , with whom he finished third. In the summer of 2014 he moved to the French Ligue Nationale de Handball for HBC Nantes . And in the summer of 2016 he switched to the Pfadi Winterthur (Switzerland). He ended his career in summer 2020.
National team
The 1.90 m tall goalkeeper stood 226 times for the Argentine national team and took part in the handball world championships 2 005 in Tunisia, 2007 in Germany, 2009 in Croatia, 2011 in Sweden, 2013 in Spain and 2015 in Qatar part. He also took part in the Olympic Games in London in the summer of 2012 and in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 . He won the gold medal at the Pan American Championships in 2004, 2010, 2012 and 2014. He also won the silver medal at the 15th Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, the gold medal at the 16th Pan American Games in Guadalajara and the silver medal at the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto .
