Erik Veje Rasmussen (born April 9, 1959 in Hørve ) is a Danish handball coach and former handball player .

Career

Erik Veje Rasmussen began playing handball at Vallekilde-Hørve and in 1979 moved to the Danish first division club Helsingør IF . After the backcourt player won the Danish championship with Helsingør in 1981, he moved to the German Bundesliga club TuS Nettelstedt . Just one season later he returned to Helsingør IF. After Rasmussen went hunting for goals for the Spanish club SC Málaga in the 1983/84 season, he then played for the German Bundesliga club VfL Gummersbach . With Gummersbach he celebrated the German championship in 1985 and winning the DHB Cup .

Rasmussen moved to the Danish club VHG Dragsholm in 1986, where he worked as a player-coach. In the 1989/89 season, the Dane played at TUSEM Essen , with whom he won the championship and the European Cup Winners' Cup . He then returned to the VHG Dragsholm. From 1990 Rasmussen was under contract as a player with the Swiss first division club Pfadi Winterthur . After winning the Swiss championship in 1992, he moved to Roar Roskilde. Between 1994 and 1998 he was a player-coach for the Swiss first division club TSV St. Otmar St. Gallen .

Erik Veje Rasmussen played from 1980 to 1993 a total of 233 international matches for the Danish national team , in which he scored 1,015 goals. With Denmark he took part in the 1984 Olympic Games.

From 1998 to 2003, Rasmussen was under contract as a coach at the Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt , which under his leadership won the Euro City Cup in 1999 , the European Cup Winners ' Cup in 2001 and the DHB Cup in 2003. From 2003 he coached the Danish club Aarhus GF . In 2004 he made a comeback at the age of 45 when Aarhus had to do without several players due to injury. In 2009 Rasmussen ended his coaching activity in Aarhus, but returned a year later to the Aarhus coaching bench.

Private

Erik Veje Rasmussen is married and has four children. His son Nikolaj Veje Rasmussen also played handball professionally.
