Robert Opel

Robert Opel (born October 23, 1939 - July 7, 1979 in San Francisco ) was an American artist , speedster and photographer .

Life

At the 1974 Academy Awards , he ran naked across the stage showing a peace sign with his hand as actor David Niven gave a speech to actress Elizabeth Taylor on the microphone . In 1978 he opened Fey-Way Studios at 1287 Howard Street in San Francisco, which gave homosexual artists a space to exhibit their works and photographs. Works by Tom of Finland and Robert Mapplethorpe were shown there.

On July 7, 1979, he was killed in a robbery on his studio.
