Karsten Kohlhaas (born April 4, 1970 in Dortmund ) is a neurologist and former German handball player . His playing position was in the left backcourt .
Handball career
Kohlhaas began his active career at the then second division OSC Dortmund . He then moved to the first division team TUSEM Essen and then to TSV Bayer Dormagen . In 1996 he left Dormagen to play for VfL Gummersbach for two years . He then moved to the then second division HSG Nordhorn. With the HSG, he then rose to the top division in 1999 . In the summer of 1999, Kohlhaas was out for several months because of a partial torn Achilles tendon . When HSG Nordhorn was in financial difficulties in 2002, Kohlhaas switched to the regional league team HSG Schwerte / Westhofen, where he ended his active career in 2002.
For the German national team Kohlhaas played 97 international matches, in which he scored 184 goals.
Professional career
Karsten Kohlhaas studied medicine in Essen from 1990 to 1996 parallel to handball and completed the practical year in Cologne. Later he became senior physician at the Helios clinics in Wuppertal on the stroke ward. In August 2011 he took over the management of the Institute for Neurology and Psychiatry at St. Elisabeth Hospital.
