The handball game community Nordhorn-Lingen is a handball club from Nordhorn .
history
The club was founded on June 1, 1981 from a merger of the handball departments of Sparta Nordhorn and Eintracht Nordhorn as HSG Nordhorn . After the HSG became champions of the Regionalliga Nord in 1993, they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. Six years later she was also a champion there and rose to the handball Bundesliga of the DHB . Since then she has been there in the upper half of the table and became German runner-up in 2002. The team plays its home games in the Euregium .
Since September 2008, the Bundesliga team has called itself HSG Nordhorn-Lingen due to budget problems and the associated financial contributions from the Emsland and the city of Lingen (Ems) . Thanks to the donations, gaming operations could initially be maintained. On February 16, 2009, HSG Sportmarketing GmbH & Co KG filed for insolvency at the Nordhorn District Court due to impending insolvency , and on March 5, insolvency administrator Ulrich Zerrath finally filed for insolvency proceedings, making HSG the second forced relegation from handball after TUSEM Essen -Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season.
The newly founded HSG Nordhorn-Lingen GmbH has been a licensee of the Bundesliga team since the 2009/2010 season. Since December 2013, the team has played some of their home games in the Emslandarena in Lingen.
2008 saw the first international success with winning the EHF Cup .
On the third last matchday of the 2018/2019 season, the HSG secured a renewed promotion to the handball Bundesliga after a 33:28 away win at EHV Aue and the subsequent defeat of HSC 2000 Coburg.
Sporting record
After the 1992/1993 season, when the HSG won the championship in the Regionalliga Nord, they achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga in relegation . There she was twice (1996 and 1998) runner-up. In 1999 HSG Nordhorn finally became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga North and, after winning the relegation, played in the 1st Bundesliga until 2009. After the forced relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2009, he was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga again in 2019.

2007/2008
In the 2007/08 season the HSG recorded 23 wins, 4 draws and 7 defeats in the Bundesliga. 1065 (Ø 31.3; 113 7-meter) goals were scored and 1018 (Ø 28.6) goals conceded, which led to 5th place in the table (first round 4th). This enabled the HSG to participate in the 2008/2009 EHF Cup .
In its own hall, the HSG only lost once in the entire season, against SG Flensburg-Handewitt . The biggest win was against Wilhelmshavener HV with 32:17 (home game), the biggest defeat against THW Kiel with 24:34 (away). The most successful thrower with 201 goals, 11 of them by seven meters , was Holger Glandorf , who extended his contract by a year until 2010. An average of 3537 spectators saw the home games.
In the DHB Cup , HSG Nordhorn made it to the semi-finals. The biggest success of the season was winning the EHF Cup , which made the HSG the most internationally successful German team in 2008.
Despite this success, the HSG Nordhorn was not financially secure. Many of the players' monthly salaries were still outstanding at the end of the season, which had immediate consequences. Jan Filip , long-time leading player at the HSG, left the club and went to the Rhein-Neckar Löwen . In the further course of the season, other regulars, such as Holger Glandorf and Peter Kukučka , left the club. This enabled the HSG to financially keep the game going until the end of the season. Again the HSG Nordhorn-Lingen reached the final in a European competition despite a decimated squad.
2008/2009
After relegation to the 2nd division due to the initiated insolvency, Maik Machulla and Heiner Bültmann became the new coaching team. Nicky Verjans also signed for the HSG for this season.

mascot
The HSG's mascot is a tiger with the club's red and white stripes and named Tiga. The mascot was introduced before the start of the game on December 6, 2006, and since then it has supported the 1st team in every game.
Euregium
The Euregium was built especially for the HSG Nordhorn. But it is also used for other cultural events. B. Atze Schröder and Udo Jürgens already performed. Since the Euregium is right next to the district sports hall of the Grafschaft Bentheim district , the three sports halls can be used for major HSG events. The Euregium has been the venue for the Grafschafter Sportgala , which is moderated by Jörg Wontorra , for nine years .
The name is derived from the Euregio .
Tax investigation / bankruptcy
The business premises of HSG Nordhorn were searched by tax investigators on September 2, 2008 . Searches were also carried out on coach Ola Lindgren , player Holger Glandorf and other players. Numerous documents were confiscated .
At the beginning of February 2009, the HSG sold Erlend Mamelund and Peter Kukučka to counter the impending bankruptcy. On February 14, 2009, Holger Glandorf switched to TBV Lemgo with immediate effect and called this step “the best I could do for the club”. On February 16, 2009, HSG Sportmarketing GmbH & Co KG filed for bankruptcy at the Nordhorn District Court, as no more players' salaries were paid due to liquidity bottlenecks.
