Maik Machulla (born January 9, 1977 in Greifswald ) is a former German handball player who currently works as a handball trainer.
Career
The trained car mechanic, weighing 99 kg, started out as a teenager at Einheit Halle-Neustadt and the Halle Sports School. In 1991 he went to SC Magdeburg and stayed there until 2002. After being loaned from SCM to SG Hameln at the end of 2001 , he moved to HSG Nordhorn for the 2002/03 season , where he was active until summer 2010. In the 2009/10 season he formed the HSG coaching team in Nordhorn together with Heiner Bültmann. Machulla was also available to his team as a player.
In the 2010/11 season Machulla played at HSG Ahlen-Hamm . After the HSG disbanded, he stayed with the license holder ASV Hamm-Westphalia and was initially, as in Nordhorn, player-coach . From the end of October 2011 he was only active as a player and was replaced by manager Kay Rothenpieler . Since summer 2012, the backcourt player has been playing for Bundesliga club SG Flensburg-Handewitt , but mainly assisted head coach Ljubomir Vranjes . After the 2013/14 season he ended his playing career, but remains as an assistant coach at SG. When a total of eight SG Flensburg-Handewitt players dropped out in February 2015, he made his comeback.
Since summer 2017, Machulla has been the successor to Ljubomir Vranjes as head coach of SG Flensburg-Handewitt, with which he won the German championship in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons.
He played 12 international matches for the German national team .
