Steffen Weinhold (born July 19, 1986 in Fürth ) is a German handball player . He plays in the back area on the right and in the middle position.

Career

society

Weinhold went through all possible selection teams - from the district to the BHV to the DHB. His greatest success so far was winning the European Junior Championship in 2006. At the age of 15, he made the important step from Zirndorf to HC Erlangen . There he played in the B and A youth and won some Bavarian championships. At the age of 17 he played his first game in the 2nd Bundesliga for the HCE . In 2007 he moved from HC Erlangen to the first Bundesliga for HSG Nordhorn , where he won the EHF Cup in his first season . From the 2009/10 season he played for TV Großwallstadt . In the summer of 2012, Weinhold joined SG Flensburg-Handewitt , with which he won the EHF Champions League in 2014. For the 2014/15 season he moved to the record champions THW Kiel and won the championship with them.

National team

On February 27, 2008, Steffen Weinhold made his senior national team debut in a friendly against Switzerland under coach Heiner Brand . On his World Cup debut in Spain in 2013 , he scored seven goals in the DHB team's first group game and was then voted Player of the Game. At the European Championships in 2016 , he was captain of the German team after Uwe Gensheimer's injury-related loss . In the 25:21 win against Slovenia in the preliminary round, he was named "Player of the Match". In the main round match against Russia, he suffered a torn muscle bundle in his left thigh shortly before the end of the game and could no longer be used in the further course of the tournament. The team won the title against Spain on January 31, 2016.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Weinhold subsequently moved into the squad for the injured Patrick Groetzki . At the end of the tournament he won the bronze medal with the German team. For this he received the silver bay leaf on November 1, 2016 . In the friendly against Iceland on January 7, 2018, he played his 100th international match. On January 7th, he was appointed to the final 16-man squad and thus took part in the 2018 European Championship . He has played 125 games so far in which he scored 298 goals.
