Domagoj Duvnjak (born June 1, 1988 in Đakovo , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian handball player who is usually used as a backcourt player in the middle position. His body length is 1.98 m, his body weight is 100 kilograms. He was elected world handball player in 2013.
Career
society
Duvnjak began playing handball in his place of birth at RK Đakovo , where he was used for the first time in the highest Croatian league at the age of 16. From the 2006/07 season he played for the Croatian club RK Zagreb . In his first season Domagoj Duvnjak won the championship and cup. This was also followed by games in the 2007/08 EHF Champions League season. From the 2009/10 season he played for the Bundesliga club HSV Hamburg . Originally, Duvnjak should not move to Hamburg until the 2011/12 season. But HSV Hamburg paid a transfer fee to release the playmaker from his contract in Zagreb early. This transaction made him the most expensive handball player in the world up until then.
With HSV Hamburg he won shortly after joining the DHB Supercup , at the end of his first season the DHB Cup and 2011, the German Cup and in 2013 the EHF Champions League . For the 2014/15 season he switched to THW Kiel , with whom he won the championship in 2015 and 2020, the DHB Cup in 2017 and 2019 and the EHF Cup in 2019 . In 2020 he was elected MVP of the German Bundesliga for the second time since 2013.
National team
At the European Championships in 2008 Domagoj Duvnjak was runner-up with the Croatian national team . He and his team also took second place at the 2009 World Cup and the 2010 European Championship .
At the European Championships in 2012 he was able to receive the bronze medal, as well as at the Olympic Games in London in 2012 . At the 2013 World Cup , he again reached third place with Croatia and was appointed to the Allstar team. He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . At the European Championship 2020 he won the silver medal with his team and was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament.
