Jackson Richardson (born June 14, 1969 in Saint-Pierre, Réunion ) is a former French handball player . He is a Knight of the French Legion of Honor and was World Handball Player of the Year in 1995 .
Career
Jackson Richardson was considered a defense specialist who tried as a preferred man in front of the defense to intercept passes of the opponent and initiate counter- attacks from it . In the regular attack formation he usually played in the left backcourt or in the playmaker position . There he was particularly noticeable because of his ground passes.
On April 12, 2009, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen signed him for the remainder of the season after injuries to backcourt players Serhij Schelmenko and Grzegorz Tkaczyk . He played seven Bundesliga games and scored four goals.
Richardson played his first international match for France on January 10, 1990 against Algeria, his last international match on February 5, 2005 against Croatia . In total, Richardson threw 775 goals in 417 international matches. He has played the most international handball matches in the world.
In the summer of 2011, Richardson took over a managerial position at the handball club AS Monaco , which competes in the fifth highest French league. In summer 2014 he became assistant coach at Chambéry Savoie HB . When Mario Cavalli ended his coaching activity in Chambéry on October 20, 2014 , Richardson took over this position on an interim basis. He has been training Dijon Métropole handball since 2015 .
