The 14th men's handball world championship was held from May 7th to May 21st, 1995 in Iceland . For the first time, 24 teams took part in the tournament. France secured the world title with a 23:19 victory in the final against Croatia . The German national team finished the tournament in 4th place after losing to Sweden 20:26 in the game for 3rd place . The Switzerland finished 7th, Austria failed to qualify for the final round.

Preliminary round

In the preliminary round, the teams competed against each other in four groups. The first four teams in each group qualified for the round of 16, the teams in positions 5 and 6 were eliminated.
