Klaus-Dieter Petersen (born November 6, 1968 in Hanover ) is a German handball trainer and former player.
Player career
Klaus-Dieter Petersen began playing handball at SG Misburg as a child. About the TSV Anderten came pivot player in 1986 to the then second division Minden GWD . In 1988 he moved to the Bundesliga for VfL Gummersbach . After five years with the Oberbergische , Petersen joined the THW Kiel in 1993 . There he played for twelve years until the end of his active career. With the Kiel team, Petersen was eight times German champion and won the DHB Cup and the EHF Cup three times .
In the German national team , Petersen made 340 international appearances between November 21, 1989 (against the GDR ) and October 19, 2004 (against Sweden ) and scored 253 goals. Behind Frank-Michael Wahl (344 international matches) he is in second place in the list of record national players . His greatest successes with the national team were winning the 2004 European Championship in Slovenia and the silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .
Coaching career
During his active time, Klaus-Dieter Petersen has been player coach at THW Kiel since 2003 . After finishing his playing career, he worked from 2005 to January 2008 as an assistant coach under Zvonimir Serdarušić . He then moved to Wilhelmshavener HV , where he had two appearances as a player in his first season as a coach. From the 2010/11 season Petersen was player- coach at Eintracht Hildesheim II. From 2012 to 2015 he coached TSV Altenholz , with whom he was promoted to the second Bundesliga in 2013. In addition, he worked in the youth sector at THW Kiel until 2014. Since summer 2015 he has been working as a junior coordinator at THW Kiel.
Klaus-Dieter Petersen has been a youth coach at the German Handball Federation since 2005 , and from 2010 to 2012 he was also the regional coach at the Lower Saxony Handball Association .
Petersen has been a certified trainer of the German Olympic Sports Confederation since October 2nd, 2014.
Honors
In 2004, Klaus-Dieter Petersen received the Schleswig-Holstein sports badge . In 2005 he was honored by the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) for his “life's work in handball”.
