Martin Schmidt (born December 22, 1969 in Achim ) is a former German handball player .

Schmidt, who came up with the number 11, played as a left-hander mostly on the right winger . In his youth, Schmidt began playing handball at his home club TSV Achim. In his youth he switched to TV Baden, where he began his active career. In 1989 he went to SG Bremen Ost and after two years the THW Kiel took him under contract. After twelve years in Kiel, he ended his Bundesliga career in 2003 and went to SV Mönkeberg , where he let his career end.

During his time as a Bundesliga player, he scored 461 goals in a total of 321 Bundesliga games, 19 of them by seven meters . For the national team Schmidt played 42 international matches in which he scored 67 goals.

Schmidt has a degree in business administration. He is married to Andrea, with whom he has a son and two daughters.
