Lars Stefan Lövgren (born December 21, 1970 in Partille ) is a former Swedish handball player . Most recently he played on the position of the middle back at THW Kiel .

Career

Lövgren began playing handball at the Swedish club Skepplanda BTK at the age of seven and joined Redbergslids IK in 1990 . In 1998 the right-hander moved to the German Bundesliga club TV Niederwürzbach . From 1999 the trained office communication clerk played at league rivals THW Kiel, for which he was active until 2009. Lövgren was the team captain in Kiel between 2001 and 2009 and was made honorary captain there after his career ended. The lion holds the records at THW for the most converted seven meters in one game (10) and the most goals in one game (18/8).

Lövgren made his international debut on October 23, 1993 in the European Championship qualification. Until his resignation from the Swedish national team , which he announced on July 31, 2006, he completed 269 international matches in which he threw 1,161 goals. From 2001 to 2006 he was the captain of the national team.

After his career, he trains the next generation at a sports high school in Uddevalla and works in a sports agency founded with Martin Schmidt . He also works as an ambassador for the EHF . He also occasionally comments on Bundesliga games for the Swedish TV channel TV4 .

Private

His marriage to Ann-Sophie Claesson resulted in a son and a daughter. His son Linus also plays handball.
