The TV 08 Niederwürzbach ( TVN ) is a handball club from Niederwürzbach , a district of the Saarland town Blieskastel . The club played its home games in the Bundesliga in Homburg / Erbach in the local sports center.

history

The TVN played in the first handball league between 1989 and 1999 . The best placement in the Bundesliga was two second places in the 1992/93 and 1994/95 seasons. In the 1990/91 season and the 1997/98 season, the TVN failed in the final of the DHB Cup against TUSEM Essen (1991) and against THW Kiel (1998).

The greatest success in the club's history was winning the Euro City Cup in 1995.

After the 1998/99 season, the club withdrew from the handball Bundesliga for financial reasons and subsequently played in the upper Saarland amateur classes. The TVN voluntarily withdrew directly into the Oberliga Saar and thus also renounced the regional league.

In the 2000/01 season, the TVN rose from the Oberliga Saar in the association league. In the following season he managed the immediate promotion to the Oberliga Saar. In the 2002/03, 2003/04, 2004/05 and 2005/06 season, the TVN was runner-up in the Oberliga Saar (now Saarlandliga) and thus missed promotion to the newly formed Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz-Saar (RPS). In the 2006/07 season, the club was finally able to win the championship in the Saarland League. Due to economic problems, the TVN had to refrain from promotion and instead plays in the district class in the 2007/08 season. The main sponsor Volkswagen AG , which existed up to this championship season, had let the long-term sponsorship contract, which was concluded by the HR director Peter Hartz with the manager of TV Niederwürzbach, his brother Rudi Hartz, expire. The board of the TVN had expected until recently that VW would extend the contract and therefore not seek new sponsors. When the seriousness of the situation was finally recognized, it was too late to attract new sponsors. Due to this fact, the players of the TV Niederwürzbach were not allowed to advance in the championship round. The beneficiary was TV Homburg, which was promoted to runner-up in the Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz-Saar.
