Philippe Schaaf

Philippe Schaaf (born April 1, 1968 in Strasbourg ) is a former French handball player .

Career

Philippe Schaaf was initially a goalkeeper in his childhood. However, since he is left-handed, he was trained to be a field player. The 1.96 m tall right back player played for Racing Strasbourg and US Ivry HB in his home country . With Ivry he won the French Cup in 1996. He then moved to the German handball league for TV Niederwürzbach , with whom he was defeated by THW Kiel in the 1997/98 DHB Cup final . Since Kiel also became champions, he was allowed to play in the European Cup Winners' Cup the following yearcompete and made it to the quarterfinals. After the TVN withdrew voluntarily in 1999 due to financial difficulties, it joined the TuS Schutterwald . At the end of 1999 he joined the Swiss club TV Suhr , with which he became Swiss champion in 2000. With Suhr he took part in the EHF Champions League 2000/01, the EHF Cup 2000/01 and the 2001/02 Cup Winners' Cup.

With the French national team , Philippe Schaaf won silver at the 1993 World Cup . Ironically, when he won the 1995 World Cup , he was absent due to an injury. At the 1996 Olympic Games , he finished fourth. In total, he played at least 135 international matches .
