Nedeljko Jovanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Недељко Јовановић ; born September 16, 1970 in Belgrade ) is a former Serbian - German handball player .

Career

Nedeljko Jovanović first played handball in his homeland in Belgrade and Šabac. From there he went to Spain, where he played in the ASOBAL league for Bidasoa Irún and TEKA Santander . From 1995, the 1.93 meter tall backcourt player then played in the handball Bundesliga at OSC Rheinhausen . After the Rheinhausener had to withdraw from the Bundesliga at the end of 1997 due to financial difficulties, Jovanović was under contract with TV Niederwürzbach from January 1998 , with whom he moved into the 1998 DHB Cup final , but in which one was subject to the THW Kiel . When TVN ran into financial problems in the 1998/99 season, he switched to TUSEM Essen in December 1998 . When he was elected world handball player in 1999, he surprisingly came second behind Rafael Guijosa . From the summer of 2000 he ran for SG VfL / BHW Hameln and received German citizenship in October 2000 so that he could be used without restriction. After he hit his opponents Holger Beelmann and Jacek Będzikowski in the face in the game against TSV Bayer Dormagen , Jovanović was suspended from the club's management. He then went to Portland San Antonio for the 2001/02 season , with whom he became Spanish champions in 2002. In 2004 he moved to Algeciras BM , which he left a year later and joined the Slovenian club RK Kozina. From 2006 Jovanović ran for Pick Szeged and from January 2007 for HIT Innsbruck . In 2009 he moved to RK Kolubara, with whom he won the Serbian championship in 2010.

Nedeljko Jovanović was part of the squad of the Yugoslav national team , with which he reached third place at the 1996 European Championships in Spain and the 1999 World Championships in Egypt and 2001 in France . He also took part with the team in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney .

Jovanović took over as assistant coach of the Serbian national team in September 2018.
