Staffan Olsson (born March 26, 1964 in Uppsala ) is a former Swedish handball player who was one of the most successful in his country.

Career

Staffan started his career at Skånela IF at the age of ten and moved to HK Cliff at the age of 14 . He later played for TV Hüttenberg , TV Niederwürzbach , THW Kiel and Hammarby IF HF . He was used 358 times for the Swedish national team. At THW Kiel, he and his Swedish colleague Magnus Wislander formed a Swedish axis. His best-known action was the equalizing goal at the EM 2002 in the final seconds of the final against Germany. Sweden won the game in extra time.

Olsson performed particularly well as a defender and when passing. He also stood out because of his long hair.

After the end of his active career, Olsson became a coach. Until the summer of 2011 he worked as head coach at Hammarby IF HF, with whom he was three times Swedish champion. From 2008 he coached the Swedish national team with Ola Lindgren . In September 2015, he also took on the position of assistant coach at Paris Saint-Germain . After the 2016 Olympic Games , he retired as the Swedish national coach. In 2018 he left Paris Saint-Germain. He has served as the United States ' National Team Sports Director since September 2019 .

Private

He is married to Marie, with whom he has two children. His son Henrik also plays handball.
