Carlos Reinaldo Pérez Enrique (born August 26, 1971 in Havana , Cuba ) is a former Cuban and Hungarian handball player . He is 1.98 meters tall.
Pérez, who last played for the Qatari club al-Shamal SC and ran for the Hungarian men's national handball team, was mostly used in the left backcourt .
Carlos Pérez began playing handball in his hometown of Havana. Because of the business between the Hungarian top club KC Veszprém and the Cuban association around Perez's compatriot Ivo Díaz , he got the chance to switch to MKB Veszprém in 1997. During his time in Veszprém, he won the Hungarian Championship fourteen times and the Hungarian Cup thirteen times. In 2002 he was in the final of the EHF Champions League with the men from Lake Balaton , but failed because of the SC Magdeburg Gladiators . In 2008 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with Veszprém . In February 2013 he moved to al-Shamal SC. He ended his career in June 2013.
Carlos Pérez had already played 171 international matches for the Cuban men's handball team by 2003 . With Cuba he finished ninth in the 1999 men's handball world championship .
Pérez became a Hungarian citizen in 1999 and was appointed to the Hungarian national team in 2002 , for which he played 55 international matches and scored 274 goals. With Hungary he was the top scorer in the men's handball world championship in 2003 and finished in 6th place, in the 2004 European handball championship in 9th place and in 4th place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He was absent from the 2007 men's handball world championship in Germany due to an injury. In the summer of 2012 he again took part in the Olympic Games in London .
Pérez has been an assistant trainer at KC Veszprém since October 2018.
