Tomas Runar Svensson (born February 15, 1968 in Eskilstuna , Södermanland County ) is a former Swedish handball player who played for the Swedish national team for many years . His body length is 1.94 m.

Career

Svensson began in his hometown Eskilstuna with the handball game and made his debut there for IF Guif Eskilstuna in the Swedish first division.

In 1990 he decided to move to Atlético Madrid in the Spanish league ASOBAL . After two third places in the Spanish championship, the handball goalkeeper moved on to Bidasoa Irún in 1992 , where he won the Copa ASOBAL in 1993 and, as a highlight in 1995, the Spanish championship , the Spanish Supercup and the EHF Champions League . Then FC Barcelona took Svensson under contract. With the Catalans he won the Spanish championship, the Copa ASOBAL and the EHF Champions League, in 1997 and 1998 the Spanish championship, the Copa del Rey de Balonmano, the Spanish Supercup, the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship , in 1999 the Spanish Championship, the EHF Champions League and the European Club Championship, 2000 the Spanish Championship, the Copa del Rey de Balonmano, the Copa ASOBAL, the Spanish Supercup, the EHF Champions League and the Club European Championship and the Copa ASOBAL in 2001 and 2002 respectively as well as the Spanish Supercup.

After these successes Svensson moved to the German handball league for HSV Hamburg , where he won the DHB Supercup in 2004. In 2005 he went back to Spain to Portland San Antonio . With the men from Pamplona he was once again in the final of the EHF Champions League in 2006. In the summer of 2009 he moved to league rivals Pevafersa Valladolid . In the 2011/12 season, Svensson was under contract with the German Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen as a goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach . After having only been part of the Rhein-Neckar Löwen coaching team since the 2012/13 season, he switched to SC Magdeburg as a goalkeeping coach in 2014 . From 2014 to 2016 he also worked as a goalkeeping coach for the Danish national handball team. Since December 2015 Svensson has been training the SCM Bundesliga team together with Bennet Wiegert .

Tomas Svensson has made 331 appearances for the Swedish national team . At the handball world championships in 1990 and 1999 he was world champion, in 1993 and 1995 he won bronze . The European Handball Championships in 1994, 2000 and 2002 he was European champion, and he won at the Olympic Games in 1992 in Barcelona, 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney each silver . For the men's handball world championship 2007 in Germany, he could not qualify with Sweden.
