The 10th men's handball world championship was held from February 23 to March 7, 1982 in the Federal Republic of Germany . A total of 16 teams competed. The USSR became world champions with a 30:27 win after extra time against Yugoslavia . The GDR team took sixth place, the host German selection could not defend their title and ended up seventh.
