Europe

Europe provided 14 participants in the World Cup. Spain was automatically qualified as world champion. The three best teams from the 2014 European Championship qualified directly .

After qualifications and elimination at the play-offs, the German team was awarded a wildcard for the World Cup by the IHF on July 8, 2014, after the qualifications in Oceania were not recognized on the grounds that there is currently no continental federation recognized by the IHF . The German team was awarded the wildcard as the best previously unqualified team in the 2013 World Cup.

Qualification groups

The teams not represented at the European Championship (except Germany ) competed in a qualifying round from October 30, 2013 to January 12, 2014 in group matches. The five group winners, the twelve teams that did not qualify for the European Championship and Germany as the second-best third-place team in the EHF-EURO qualification then played the nine other European teams in a play-off round.

Oceania

In April 2014, two games were played in New Zealand, with which the oceanic World Cup participants should be determined. As it announced on its website in July 2014, the International Handball Federation had already declared in advance that these games could not be recognized as World Cup qualifications. She also justified that this fact was only made public afterwards.

On July 8th, the world association IHF announced that Australia could not take part in the World Cup. The reason given was the lack of a continental federation recognized by the IHF.
