The 16th men's handball Pan American Championship Uruguay from June 23 to 29, 2014 . The organizer was the Pan-American Team Handball Federation (PATHF). Argentina won the Pan American championship for the sixth time . The top three teams - Argentina, Brazil and Chile - also qualified for the 2015 World Cup .
venue All games of the 2014 Pan American Championship were played at the Estadio Municipal Sergio Matto in Canelones .
Attendees Eligible for the Pan American Championship were Brazil , Argentina , Chile , Guatemala , USA , Greenland , Venezuela , Mexico , Cuba and hosts Uruguay. Cuba decided not to participate for financial reasons. Venezuela also withdrew its national team shortly before the start of the competition.
Group draw The preliminary group draw was held on May 24, 2014 in Montevideo . The nine qualified teams were divided into two groups. This resulted in the following groups:
Preliminary round In the preliminary round, the eight teams played in two groups, each with four national teams. Within a group, each team competed once against each other team. The two best teams in each group qualified for the semi-finals.
