Martin Straňovský (born September 12, 1985 in Nové Zámky , Czechoslovakia ) is a Slovak handball player who plays for the German Bundesliga club HC Erlangen and plays for the Slovak men's national handball team.
Career
Martin Straňovský began playing handball in his hometown, where he also made his debut in the first team. He quickly rose to the youth national team of his country and attracted attention at youth tournaments until he was signed by the Spanish top club Ademar León in 2005 . With the club from León he reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2007 , but failed at HSV Hamburg . In the summer of 2012, the 1.87-meter-tall left winger moved to FC Barcelona , with whom he won the championship in 2013 and 2014 and the Super Globe , the Supercopa Asobal , the Copa ASOBAL and the Copa del Rey de Balonmano in 2013/14 . In the EHF Champions League 2012/13 he was again defeated by HSV Hamburg in the final. In the EHF Champions League 2013/14 he reached the Final Four again . After the commitment of Guðjón Valur Sigurðsson , he left the club in the summer of 2014 to get more playing time again. On July 15, 2014, the German Bundesliga promoted HC Erlangen announced their commitment. At HC Straňovský plays as a playmaker in the back center position. In the summer of 2018 he switched to the Slovak club HT Tatran Prešov .
For the Slovak men's national handball team , he was in the squad for the 2011 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship ; by December 2011 he played 96 international matches in which he threw 343 goals.
Straňovský was voted Slovak handball player of the year in 2006.
