EHF Champions League 2013/14

38 handball club teams that had qualified for the competition in their home leagues in the previous season took part in the EHF Champions League 2013/14 . The EHF Champions League (until 1993: European Champion's Cup) has been held for the 54th time since 1957. The cup games began in September 2013, the Final Four took place on May 31 and June 1, 2014 for the fifth time in Cologne's Lanxess Arena . The winner was SG Flensburg-Handewitt , which defeated THW Kiel with 30:28 in the final.

mode

Qualification: The qualification was held in several tournaments: four groups of four teams and two groups of two with a round trip. The best team qualified for each group. The fourteen eliminated teams moved into the EHF European Cup .

Group stage: There were four groups with six teams each. In a group everyone played a game against each other; the four best in the group reached the last sixteen.

Round of 16: The round of 16 was played in the knockout system with a return leg. The winner of each game went to the quarter-finals.

Quarterfinals: The quarterfinals were played in the knockout system with a return leg. The winner of each game advanced to the semi-finals.

Final Four: For the fifth time there was a Final Four tournament, the semifinals and the final took place on May 31st and June 1st 2014 in the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. The semi-finals were played in the knockout system. The winners of each game advanced to the final. The losers of each game moved into the game for third place. Only one game was played per semi-final. The final and the game for third place were also played in simple mode.

The draw for the qualification took place on June 27, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. (UTC + 2) in Vienna.

Two teams took part that had previously qualified for the competition. The winner took part in the group stage (group D). The loser took part in the 2nd round of the EHF European Cup.

Wild card qualification

On June 16, 2013, the EHF announced that Atlético Madrid would not participate in the 2013/14 Champions League season for financial reasons. Instead of the wild card tournament, the semi-finals were played with a home and away leg. The vacated place in group B was played between Montpellier agglomeration HB and Orlen Wisła Płock. RK Metalurg and Pick Szeged played for the other free place in group C.
