Diego Esteban Simonet (born December 26, 1989 in Buenos Aires , Argentina ) is an Argentine handball player .

Life

Diego Simonet is the son of Luis Simonet and Alicia Formen. He started his handball career at Sociedad Alemana de Villa Ballester. In 2008 he moved to Sao Caetano HC in Brazil. From 2009 to 2011 he was under contract with the Spanish first division handball club CB Torrevieja . Simonet lives in France and from 2011 played together with his brother Sebastián Simonet for US Ivry HB . On July 1, 2013 he moved within the French league to Montpellier Handball . With the record champions, he won the league cup in 2014 and 2016, won the French cup in 2016, won the EHF Champions League in 2018 and reached the final of the EHF Europa Pokal 2013/14 in Berlin , where he lost to Pick Szeged .

Simonet has been active in the Argentine national handball team since 2010 . He also played for Argentina at the London 2012 Summer Olympics . In 2012 and 2014 he won the Pan American Championship with Argentina . At the 2013 World Cup he played with his brothers Sebastián and Pablo . He also won the gold medal at the 16th Pan American Games in Guadalajara and the silver medal at the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto .
