Pablo Simonet (born April 5, 1992 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine handball player who is mostly used on the back center . His brothers Sebastián and Diego also play handball professionally.
The 1.85 m tall and 90 kg heavy right-handed player began playing handball in his home town at SAG de Villa Ballester. There he won the Argentine youth championship in 2011 and made his debut in the adult team. In January 2012 he moved to the Spanish league ASOBAL to BM Ciudad Encantada . After two years he followed his brothers in the French Ligue Nationale de Handball to US Ivry HB , where he replaced Diego and played with Sebastián. He has been under contract with the Spanish first division club BM Benidorm since summer 2016 . He will return to BM Ciudad Encantada for the 2020/21 season.
With the Argentine national team , Simonet took part in the 2013 World Cup and finished in 18th place. There he ran together with his two brothers and scored 20 goals in seven games. He won the gold medal at the 2014 Pan American Championship. At the 17th Pan American Games in Toronto , he won the silver medal. He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . So far, he has played 65 international matches in which he scored 141 goals.
With the junior selection, he took part in the U-19 World Cup 2011 in his own country and reached 10th place. He scored 24 goals and gave 14 assists. At the U-21 World Handball Championship in 2013 he finished 16th with Argentina and scored 37 goals.
