Career

Momir Ilić at the Schlecker Cup 2009

Momir Ilić took part in the Champions League and the EHF Cup with RK Gorenje Velenje . There he played with Vid Kavtičnik , who moved to THW Kiel, and Vedran Zrnić , who later played with him in Gummersbach.

In 2006 Ilić moved to Germany for VfL Gummersbach , with whom he won the EHF Cup in 2009 . For the 2009/10 season he moved to THW Kiel . VfL Gummersbach received a transfer fee of 500,000 euros for the release of Ilić, who was actually contractually bound to the club until 2010. He signed a four-year contract with THW. With Kiel, Ilić was both Champions League winner and German champion in 2010 and 2012. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 he also won the DHB Cup . For the 2013/14 season, Ilić moved to the Hungarian club KC Veszprém, where he signed a three-year contract. With the Magyars he won the championship in 2014, 2015 and 2016 as well as the cup in 2014 and 2015, and with 103 goals he was the top scorer of the EHF Champions League 2013/14 . In the EHF Champions League 2014/15 season he was again top scorer with 114 goals. With Veszprém he reached the final, but had to grant FC Barcelona the title. In 2015/16 Veszprem won the Seha League where Ilić was voted the most valuable player in the Final Four. He also won the Hungarian League and the Cup with his club. In the Champions League final, Veszprém lost to KS Kielce in the seven-meter throw. Ilić was considered one of the best players in the world since his time at THW Kiel and probably the best handball player from the former Yugoslavia. He received the title in 2016. He ended his career after the 2018/19 season.

With the national team, Ilić won the silver medal at the 2012 European Championship in their own country and was voted the most valuable player of the tournament. In the summer of 2012 he took part in the Olympic Games in London , where he delivered a disappointing tournament with Serbia.
