Ivan Čupić (born March 27, 1986 in Metković , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian handball player . He is 1.78 m tall.
Čupić, who plays for the Macedonian club RK Vardar Skopje and plays for the Croatian national team (shirt number 27), is mostly used as a right winger.
Career
Ivan Čupić started playing handball in his hometown. He also made his debut in the Croatian first division for the local first division club RK Metković . In 2005 he joined the league rivals RK Agram Medveščak Zagreb before moving to Octavio Vigo in the Spanish ASOBAL league in 2007 for a year . In summer 2008 he went to the Slovenian club RK Velenje , with which he was national champion in 2009. From the 2010/11 season, he ran for the Bundesliga lion Rhein-Neckar on. In the summer of 2012, Čupić moved to the Polish club KS Kielce . In 2016 he signed a contract with the Macedonian first division club RK Vardar Skopje .
Ivan Čupić was with the Croatian national team in 2008 Vice European Champion , 2009 Vice World Champion and 2010 Vice European Champion again . In 2009 he was also chosen as the best right winger in the All-Star team .
As part of the preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics , Čupić suffered a serious injury: after a stumble, his wedding ring got caught in a wire fence, whereupon two thirds of his ring finger had to be amputated. Čupić missed the games in Beijing , but his further career was not in danger.
Since 2012, Cupić has finished third with the Croatian team three times in a row: at the 2012 European Championships , at the 2012 Olympic Games in London - where he was again appointed to the All-Star Team - and at the 2013 World Cup . He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
