Danijel Šarić ( Serbian Данијел Шарић, born June 27, 1977 in Doboj , SR Bosnia and Herzegovina , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Qatari handball goalkeeper of Bosnian - Serbian origin. He has both Serbian and Bosnian citizenship. His height is 1.94 m. He plays for the Qatari club Al-Arabi SC and for the Qatar national team .

Career

Danijel Šarić signed his first professional contract with RK Red Star Belgrade . With the capital city he was champion and cup winner several times; In 1999 he then moved to the league competitor RK Sintelon. After four years he moved to Spain to CB Cantabria Santander ( Liga ASOBAL ). There and at his next club, BM Alcobendas, he was largely unsuccessful. In 2006 he received an offer from the top club Ademar León and moved into the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup in 2007 , but was defeated by HSV Hamburg.

In 2008, Šarić left Ademar León and joined SDC San Antonio . After just one season, Šarić moved to league rivals FC Barcelona. In 2016 he switched to the Qatari club Al-Qiyada. Two years later, Šarić joined Al-Duhail SC, with whom he won the Asian Champions League in 2019. He has been running for Al-Arabi SC since 2019.

Šarić played 50 international matches for the national teams of Serbia and Montenegro and Serbia from 2004 to 2007 . For a long time he was in the shadow of Dejan Perić and Arpad Šterbik , only after the resignation of Perić could Šarić record more shares. After changing his citizenship and a waiting period, he ran for the Bosnian national team from 2010 .

In order to be able to set up a competitive team at the domestic World Cup in Qatar in 2015 , the Qatari Association persuaded Šarić to change nationalities in 2013. Since his last international match was in March 2011, the three-year blocking period during which he was not allowed to play an international match was not a problem. In October 2014 it was announced that he would play for Qatar at the World Cup. He also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

He was runner-up in 2015 with Qatar.
