Hans Ottar Lindberg (born August 1, 1981 in Høje-Taastrup , Denmark ) is a Danish handball player . He has played in the handball Bundesliga since 2007 and is one of the best right wingers in the world.

Career

In the club

Lindberg played in his childhood football and was active as a left-back in the highest Danish Youth League. He initially tried handball for a month and was only later persuaded by a friend to also start playing handball. Lindberg was invited to the soccer and handball association's inspection activities. When Lindberg was sorted out from football, he decided to play handball.

Hans Lindberg 2014

Lindberg played from the age of 14 for the Danish club Høj Ølstykke. He then ran for six years for Team Helsinge, with whose men's team he competed in the Håndboldligaen . Between 2005 and 2007 he was under contract with the Danish first division club Viborg HK . In the 2006/07 season he was the top scorer of the Danish league with 187 goals in 26 games and failed with Viborg in the final of the Danish championship at GOG Svendborg TGI .

In 2007, Lindberg moved to the German Bundesliga club HSV Hamburg . When Lindberg was signed by HSV Hamburg, there were rumors in the Danish media that THW Kiel was interested in Lindberg and had lost the race for national player Hans Lindberg against HSV . However, this was rejected as unfounded by Kiel's manager at the time, Uwe Schwenker . With HSV, he won his first title in Germany in 2009 with the DHB Supercup . The following season ended with the 2009/10 DHB Cup . In addition, the right -winger Dane scored the most goals in the Bundesliga this season and was the top scorer in Germany for the first time. At the beginning of the 2010 season he was able to defend the DHB Supercup with HSV. In the following handball Bundesliga season 2010/11 he was with HSV Hamburg with only 6 loss points before THW Kiel German champion. It was the first championship ever for both Lindberg and HSV. This could not be defended in the following season 2011/12 , they finished fourth. Overall, the 2012/13 season was the best of his career so far. In addition to a relatively disappointing 5th place in the championship and reaching the semi-finals in the DHB Cup , he won the Champions League for the first time with HSV . In addition, he was named top scorer in all three competitions and thus ensured a triple of a special kind. The 2013/14 season went well in the league with fourth place, but with the early elimination in the DHB Cup 2013/14 (2nd round ) and in the Champions League 2013/14 (round of 16) overall mixed. In the Bundesliga season 2014/15 , Lindberg suffered a serious kidney injury on matchday 27 in the encounter with Füchsen Berlin after a collision with goalkeeper Silvio Heinevetter . Even without Lindberg, HSV was able to reach the final in the EHF Cup 2014/15 , which was lost to Füchse Berlin at 30:27. In the following season he celebrated his comeback at the start of the DHB Cup 2015/16 .

After the first half of the Bundesliga season under the new coach Michael Biegler , Lindberg reacted in January 2016 to HSV's cancellation of games in the handball Bundesliga and switched to Füchsen Berlin . In September 2016 Lindberg was charged with the foxes club champion and celebrated his first title with the new club. On the occasion of the 50th birthday of the handball Bundesliga, Lindberg was chosen as one of five right wingers in the legends selection in 2016. During the 2017/18 season, Lindberg extended his contract until 2021. At the end of the 2017/18 season, Lindberg won the EHF Cup with the Füchsen . In the 28:25 final win against Saint-Raphaël Var Handball , he contributed six goals and was the top scorer in this competition for the second time in a row. He has been the team captain of Füchse Berlin since the beginning of the 2018/19 season.

At the 2014 European Championships in his own country, he was runner-up after losing 41:32 to France in the final. At the 2015 World Cup in Qatar , he was eliminated with his team in the quarter-finals against Spain after a 24:25. The 2016 European Championship took place in Poland. At this tournament, after a convincing group stage, they were eliminated in the main round as third in the group behind Spain and Germany and ended up in 6th place. At the Olympic tournament in Rio de Janeiro , where Denmark won the gold medal, Lindberg was only in the extended squad. At the 2017 World Cup in France , Denmark was eliminated by Hungary in the round of 16 and finished in 10th place. With 34:35 a.m., the Danes lost to the Swedes in the semi-finals of the 2018 European Championship in Croatia . In the 29:32 defeat against France in the game for third place, Lindberg scored twelve goals.

At the 2019 World Cup , which was played both in Germany and in his home country Denmark , he injured himself in the first group game against Chile and was initially unable to continue the tournament. For the final, he was nominated after he had recovered from his injury and was used in the closing stages of the game. With the 31:22 win against Norway, the Danish national team crowned themselves world champions for the first time in their own country and Lindberg celebrated the greatest success of his career.
