Michael "Beagle" Biegler (born April 5, 1961 in Leichlingen ) is a German handball coach .

Career

Michael Biegler began his coaching career as a sports student in 1984 as a B youth coach at Blau-Weiß Königsdorf, where he also played handball for two years in the Mittelrhein Association. In 1985, meanwhile a qualified sports teacher, he went to LTV Wuppertal as a trainer . In 1989 he moved to OSC Dortmund for one season and then to TSV Bayer Dormagen . He stayed there until his move to VfL Gummersbach in 1994 , which he coached until 1997. He was then a trainer at GWD Minden until the 1998/99 season, where he was dismissed during the current season and replaced by Alexander Rymanow . During the 1999/2000 season he took over the coaching office of SG Hameln , with which he made it to the first handball league. There he resigned after eleven match days despite a good start to the season.

From 2000 to 2002 he coached TSG Friesenheim . He then became assistant trainer at Frisch Auf Göppingen under Christian Fitzek . When he received the offer from the Wilhelmshavener HV , which was in danger of relegation, in 2003 , he used a corresponding release clause in his contract and switched to the WHV in November of that year. On January 16, 2008, he was released from his duties at the WHV and took over the post of head coach at SC Magdeburg on January 29, 2008 . As of January 1, 2010, Biegler moved to TV Großwallstadt as head coach . In the summer of 2009, Biegler had already signed a contract in Großwallstadt that was valid from July 1, 2010. Since the SCM was planning a quick new start, both parties agreed to separate early. On November 30, 2010, Großwallstadt separated again from Biegler.

Since October 1, 2012, Biegler has been the coach of the Polish national team as the successor to Bogdan Wenta . From May 6, 2013, he also coached the second division club SC DHfK Leipzig ; the engagement ended at the end of the 2012/13 season. On July 1, 2015, Biegler took over as coach at HSV Hamburg . After HSV Hamburg went bankrupt in January 2016, Biegler took on a development aid project in Uganda that was limited to August 31, 2016. After the Polish national team left the European handball championship in 2016 , Biegler announced his resignation as national coach in January 2016. Since April 2016 he has coached the German women's national team . From January 1, 2018 to October 1, 2018 he coached the Bundesliga club SC DHfK Leipzig Handball . After coach Robert Nijdam left Bayer Leverkusen in December 2019 , he took over as coach together with Renate Wolf and Andreas Thiel . From the 2020/21 season he will be the sole coach of Bayer 04.

From 1993 to 1996 Biegler was assistant coach of the German men's national team .

Biegler is also a sought-after goalkeeper coach; In 2003 he was invited by the Brazilian Handball Federation to train the Brazilian national goalkeepers for the Pan-American handball championships.
