The TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen , the first handball team of women to marketing purposes nicknamed elves wearing, plays in the handball league . The handball division, with the elves as the flagship, is a division of TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen . The club is the women's record champion of the German Handball Federation with twelve titles and the record winner in the DHB Women's Cup with nine wins. However, HC Leipzig also claims the title of “German record champion” and “German record cup winner” , which, including the titles won in the GDR, has a total of 23 national championships and 9 cup victories.
history
The sport of handball began in the Leverkusen 04 sports association in the mid-twenties, and the women's and youth teams played their first games in the summer of 1930. The Rhinelander have won one international title, twelve championships and nine cup wins so far. They each managed to defend at least one title. The first national player from Leverkusen was Wally Fischer , who together with the later national player Gisela Hoey brought a total of four titles to the Rhine. Bayer Leverkusen got married between 1979 and 1987. The team won eight championships and six cup wins in nine seasons. Undoubtedly the highlight was reaching the final in the European Cup, today's Champions League , which was clearly lost 16:22 and at home 19:20 against Radnički Belgrade , who had already contested the fifth final in a row.
The former runner Renate Wolf has been with the club since 1975 , who is now the manager of the handball department and was also the trainer from 1996 to 2012 . She took over the coaching position from Norbert Gwiozda and led the club to two cup wins and the Challenge Cup, which is the fourth highest trophy in European handball.
Organizationally, the department is managed by a department head. The chairmanship has been held since 2005 (with a one-year break) Dietmar Bochert, who in this role also belongs to the entire board of the main association. Deputies are handball legend and lawyer Andreas Thiel and the former Ford manager Hans Frenger. Bernhard Claus is the treasurer. Further members of the board are youth manager Conny Krüger, female manager Wally Fischer, elder Gesine Küster and male manager Carsten Gerdes.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen is the only club that has been a member of the women's handball league since it was founded in 1975. However, this series was threatened by the withdrawal of the main sponsor of the main club, Bayer AG . As a result, the budget got into trouble. Several prominent personalities are campaigning for the team to remain in the 1st Bundesliga. Including goalkeeping coach Andreas Thiel. On February 27, 2010, it was announced that Bayer AG will provide a one-off payment to save the Bundesliga handball.

Men's department
The Bayer Leverkusen field handball team won the German championship in 1956 . In 1955 and 1959 , the team was also in the championship final. In the period from 1956 to 1959 the club was also four times in a row West German champions and between 1952 and 1961 won eight times the title in the Middle Rhine League, which represented the top division in normal league operations.
In indoor handball, similar successes could be achieved at the same time, even if the big hit never succeeded: Four West German championship titles (1959-61 and 1964) each entitled to participate in the finals of the German championship, in these tournaments the fourth place achieved three times was the largest Leverkusen success. At the level of the Mittelrhein association league, also in indoor handball up to the foundation of the Bundesliga in 1966/67, the highest German division, Leverkusen regularly alternated with VfL Gummersbach in winning the title and was association champion six times between 1951 and 1964. 1978/79 and 1980 to 1982 Bayer Leverkusen played in the men's handball league . The team then played in the 2nd Bundesliga for twelve years until they withdrew for financial reasons in 1994. After more than a decade of playing at the regional association level, the first men's team was withdrawn from the regional league (6th division) in the 2007/08 season. The men's team has dissolved.
