The TSG Ketsch is a sports club from the Palatine community ketch . He is known nationwide for his women's handball team, which belonged to the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga for several seasons .
The Union
The club, which was founded in 1902, has around 1,800 members and is divided into the six departments handball , gymnastics , athletics , gymnastics , volleyball and health sports . The club is known nationwide primarily for its handball department with 450 members. The women's team, referred to by their fans as the “Ketscher Bären”, belonged to the 1st Bundesliga for a total of five seasons . Since 2015 the team has referred to itself as the " Kurpfalz-Bären ".
The TSG handball players
First of all it was the men who made ketch handball known nationwide. In the finals for the German field handball championship in 1955 and 1963, TSG was there and only failed in the quarter-finals. The handball players appeared nationwide for the first time when they were on the weekend of 18./19. February 1961 hosted the final round of the German indoor handball championship . 600 spectators saw the 5: 4 final victory of RSV Mülheim after two extra times against Vorwärts Frankfurt .
In terms of sport, they lagged a little behind, because when the Oberliga Baden was introduced in 1969 , TSG Ketsch was not there. Twelve years later, the rise succeeded, but with 12:32 points you had to go to the bottom of the table in the newly created national league. In 1983 the immediate resurgence took place. As a newcomer to the league, TSG won the runner-up with 32:12 points behind TG Laudenbach (35: 9). A year later, in 1984/85, they secured the league championship with 35: 5 points and a subsequent success in the play-off against TSV 05 Red with the same number of points and made it to the Regionalliga Süd . TSG stayed there for seven years before the big hit in 1991/92. With 13: 8 they prevailed in the last game of the season against the table leader TV Echterdingen with the same points and were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga South . In 1994/95 and 1999/00 they played in the 1st Bundesliga for one year , and between 2005 and 2008 for another three years. The record since 1985 - seven years of the Regional League, fourteen years of the 2nd Bundesliga and five years of the 1st Bundesliga - shows why TSG Ketsch is now the undisputed number one in women's handball in Baden . In 2011/12 the team was relegated, but could have stayed in the 2nd Bundesliga due to the insolvency of Kickers Sindelfingen. But you went to the 3rd division of your own free will. In 2012/13 the team became champions in the 3rd League West, but again the club waived the 2nd Bundesliga. In 2016 Ketsch returned to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2018/19 season, Ketsch was promoted to the Bundesliga.
