The 2019/20 season of the 3rd division in women's handball was the tenth in its history. In four seasons with a total of 48 teams, the unofficial North, Central, West and South German championship and qualification for the 2nd Bundesliga have been played since September 14, 2019 . On April 21, 2020, the 2019/20 season was declared over by the German Handball Federation (DHB) due to the corona pandemic .
mode
The 3rd women's division consists of four seasons, the composition of which was based on geographical factors. A double round tournament is played in each season . Of the four season winners, three are promoted to the second division. The three last-placed teams of each season are relegated to the corresponding major leagues . Deviating from this general stipulation, there may be other promotion and relegation scenarios that are bindingly regulated in the DHB game rules and the implementation regulations.
North season
For "geographical reasons", TV Oyten and the second team from VfL Oldenburg, both of which played in the west season in the 2018/19 season, were transferred to the north season by the DHB game committee.

Season middle
The league that was called “Staffel Ost” in the past seasons was renamed by the DHB Game Committee for the 2019/20 season to “Staffel Mitte” in order to take into account the “regional weighting of the seasons”. As a result of the seasons, Germania Fritzlar from the west season and the second team of TSG Ketsch from the south season were also transferred to the middle season.
