The handball players of TV Nellingen
The "Hornets", as the TV handball players call themselves, played in the 2nd Bundesliga once in the 2002/03 season , but had to leave the league with the "maximum penalty" of 0:52 points. At that time, the company operated under the name HaSpo Ostfildern for two years, from 2001 to 2003 . The team made it back to the second division in 2005 when they secured the championship of the Regionalliga Süd with 42:10 points and seven points ahead of SG Leutershausen . In the 2007/08 season, the Hornets reached fourth in the table for the first time in the promotion play-offs to the Bundesliga. With a 28:25 home win over northern champions Borussia Dortmund , they initially caused a big surprise, but had to acknowledge the superiority of the later Bundesliga promoted at 21:31 in the second leg . In the 2009/10 season they reached the promotion play-offs again as second in the table. After the semi-final against SC Greven 09 was won, they failed in the final at SG Handball Rosengarten . Also in the following 2010/11 season they reached the promotion play-offs as second in the table. In the semifinals they won against SV Union Halle-Neustadt . As in the previous year, they lost the final, this time against SVG Celle due to the away goals rule . In the 2011/12 season, the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga was again just missed, this time due to the 18 goals worse goal difference against the TuS Weibern . In 2016 Nellingen finally achieved promotion to the Bundesliga. After the 2018/19 season, Nellingen withdrew his women's team from the Bundesliga and will compete in the third division in the coming season .
The team plays their home games in sports hall 1 in Ostfildener Ernst-Kirchner-Straße.
