The 2012/2013 season of the 2. Handball Bundesliga Women was the 28th in their history. 15 teams played for promotion to the top German league. The first two clubs in the final table rose directly to the 1st handball league . The last two clubs had to go to the 3rd division . SVG Celle and VfL Sindelfingen were relegated from the last season of the 1st handball league . However, VfL Sindelfingen withdrew its team and did not appear in the 2nd Bundesliga. Newcomers from the 3rd division were TSG Ober-Eschbach , BVB Füchse Berlin , 1. FSV Mainz and SG 09 Kirchhof .

mode

The mode was everyone against everyone with one game at home and one away. At the end of the season, the league leaders and the second placed team were promoted directly to the first division , the last two teams relegated directly to the third division . In the event of a tie, the better goal difference decided. If the goal difference was the same, playoffs were scheduled.
