The 2012/2013 season of the 3rd division in men's handball was the third season since the launch of the league.

From the four seasons (north, east, west and south), the respective champions were basically qualified for direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga . The season winners were HSG Tarp-Wanderup , DJK Rimpar Wölfe , TSV Bayer Dormagen and TSV Friedberg . Ultimately, however, only three teams rose: the HSG Tarp-Wanderup and TSV Altenholz from the North season and the DJK Rimpar Wölfe from the East season.

By renouncing the other potential candidates for promotion in the seasons West and South, in addition to the season winner HSG Tarp Wanderup, the second TSV Altenholz is promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga.

3rd League West decisions

At the beginning of February 2013, TuS Wermelskirchen withdrew its team from playing in the third division. This means the team is relegated directly to the league; the games are not rated, the TuS is determined as the first relegated.

The two teams from Edewecht and Leichlingen, who were playing for the championship title, declared before the end of the season that they did not want to move up to the second division, the team from Dormagen is blocked for a possible promotion after the bankruptcy in 2011. Since only the second-placed team would be eligible as a replacement, no team will be promoted from the west relay.

Of the three teams fighting for the championship title, Friedberg and Heilbronn-Horkheim had already declared before the end of the season that they did not want to move up to the second division; the team from Balingen was basically not entitled as the 2nd team.

Relegation

After VfL Edewecht decided not to participate in the 2013/14 championship round of the men's 3rd division, a place in the field of 64 teams has to be filled. In addition, the fourteenth of the four seasons can contest a relegation to remain in class. The 2nd team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt did not participate.
